"How do I come to God?"

In the book of John, chapter 4, verse 24, we read:

"God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship

him in spirit and in truth."

Since God is Spirit, we must come to Him in Spirit, that is, in prayer.

But the Bible has much more to say on this subject...

The Lord says in John 6:63,

"...the words that I speak unto you are spirit..."

Isaiah 55:1-3 says,

"Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he

that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy

wine and milk without money and without price.

Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread?

and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken

diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your

soul delight itself in fatness.

Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall

live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you,..."

Notice the last statement of this passage,

"Incline your ear and come unto me..."

This passage is saying that we come unto Him by simply coming unto His Word.

Notice the very next phrase,

"hear, and your soul shall live"

The Lord says this, because in John 1:1, we read:

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,

and the Word was God."

then, in the same chapter, verse 14, He says:

John 1:14

"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we

beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the

Father) full of grace and truth."

These passages are speaking of a very profound truth. They are saying that the

person of the Lord Jesus Christ, is the Word. Notice that these verses together say

that, "the Word" who is God (vs 1) was "made flesh" (vs 14). In the book of

Revelations, chapter 19, verse 13, it speaks of Jesus and says:

"...his name is called the Word of God."

Since Jesus, in a profound and spiritual way, is the Word of God, it makes perfect

sense that we can come to God by simply coming to His Word.  As we bow down our

ear and hear (or read) what His Word says, we are communing with the Almighty.

We are worshiping Him with our attention.  We are coming to God and we are

partaking of Christ. Just as Jesus is our savior, as the Bible declares, God uses His

Word to save us. Here are some verses which show this:

1 Peter 1:23

James 1:18

James 1:21

Ephesians 1:13

Romans 10:17

John 6:63

This particular truth will be discussed much more as the construction of this web

site progresses. My heart now echoes to you the words of that Isaiah 55: 3 passage:

"incline your ear and come...(unto Jesus) hear, and your soul

shall live"

I hope and pray that you can taste and see that the Lord is gracious. He is so good,

to know Him is life. There really is no greater joy; and to be apart from Him is

death.
